Mouth GuardsAdequate sleep is an important part of a healthy lifestyle. However, when you wear braces, it can make your rest uneasy. That's why we offer night mouthguards to our patients with braces. Our mouthguards at Highridge Dental Care have been specially designed for nighttime use and fit comfortably on your teeth so that you can enjoy the benefits of a good night's sleep without worrying about your orthodontic appliance. Why Are Night Mouthguards Necessary?Night mouthguards are necessary for those who wear braces or have any other oral appliance. Without a nightguard, your braces can rub against the inside of your mouth, leading to possible injury and discomfort. A night mouthguard prevents this by supporting your jaw while you sleep. This allows the muscles below your chin to relax which improves breathing patterns as well. Due to these benefits, we recommend wearing a night mouthpiece while undergoing orthodontic treatment. Night mouthpieces are a must for anyone with braces (or any other orthodontic device) due to the benefits they offer. These devices help prevent injury, improve breathing patterns, and promote jaw relaxation which in turn improves oral health. While these mouthguards may feel uncomfortable or different at first, over time your body will adjust to them, and you'll no longer notice that it is there. How To Choose The Right Mouthguard For YouAlways choose a mouthguard that is the right size. If it's too big, you could be putting your teeth at risk of injury and if it's too small, you might still have to keep opening your jaw or clenching your teeth while wearing the appliance. Mouthguards are available in three different levels of protection. Basic level guards offer light protection against minor injuries; moderate guards provide more significant protection but are not as durable as high-level mouthguards which give maximum comfort with full coverage from all types of discomfort. The best choice for most people who play sports on a regular basis would be either a high or moderate guard depending on their activity since these two levels won't really show much wear over time after they're broken in. Basic mouthguards are made from a single piece of material that will mold to your teeth and gums, but these guards offer the least amount of protection against serious injury because they do not cover much surface area. Moderate-level mouthguards use two pieces with one fitting over top of the other for more coverage which provides better protection than basic guards; however, high-level mouthguards provide the best chance at avoiding any discomfort or injuries by covering all surfaces of the teeth including those near gum lines as well as areas on either side where biting can occur. The fit is crucial when choosing a night guard so it is important you have a custom-made night guard created specifically for your mouth. We can do that for you here at Highridge Dental Care.
