Dental Bridge

A dental bridge being placed in a mouth Dental bridges, also known as fixed partial dentures, are often used to replace a tooth that has been lost. Dental bridges can be made of metal alloys or porcelain, and they serve the function of filling in the gap between adjacent teeth. They work by linking two dental crowns on either end with artificial teeth mounted between them. At Highridge Dental Care, we will remove any decay in your natural teeth and then build up the area before attaching a bridge to it.

What Is A Dental Bridge And How Does It Work?

A dental bridge is a fixed appliance that replaces missing teeth. The tooth on either side of the gap is crowned and a replacement tooth is cemented in between them to fill the empty space. If you have enough healthy, natural teeth to anchor it then our dentist will probably suggest a crown for these anchoring teeth as well.

The two most common types are the fixed bridge and the partial denture bridge. The fixed bridge is a permanent solution that attaches artificial replacements onto adjacent intact ones using metal brackets and an adhesive material called composite resin (tooth-colored filling). These bridges can be used if there are good supporting surfaces near both sides of the gap. Partial denture bridges, on the other hand, are a temporary solution while longer-term solutions such as implants, or dentures are being explored.

Why Do I Need A Dental Bridge?

A dental bridge is a procedure used to replace missing teeth. The missing teeth are replaced with either artificial teeth, crowns, implants, fixed bridgework, or dentures. A dental bridge can also be an interim solution while waiting for a permanent treatment. A dental bridge may also be prescribed if you have severely crooked front teeth that cannot be corrected by orthodontics alone without compromising your smile due to aesthetics.

A common misconception about bridges is that they are only for older people who need replacement teeth because they wore down over time or were not taken care of previously. This perception couldn't be farther from the truth, as younger patients can require treatment with a bridge just like older ones do. Bridges might even replace missing teeth in order to prevent other problems such as gum infections and bone deterioration.

How To Get The Best Results From Your Dental Bridge

We will start with a dental exam to determine the health of your teeth and gums. Next, we will discuss what type of dental bridge is best for you based on your needs. For instance, a fixed porcelain bridge or a removable partial denture are popular options because they can be taken in and out at will without harming any adjacent teeth. That means less chance of gum inflammation where the tooth meets (or doesn't meet) the gums due to infection from food particles which could lead to a breakdown of bone and tissue underneath, leading towards loss of the tooth.
